Adventure Therapy

Support through Adventure Therapy at Whenua Iti Outdoors.

Adventure Therapy programmes are a proven, life changing intervention based on a clinical approach used by field therapists. Our Adventure Therapy Programme includes preparation for time in the wilderness with time to get to know one another, time together in the wilderness and follow-up support after the wilderness experience. The programme uses a personal approach to focus on finding solutions, developing inner strength and resilience to motivate participants and help them work through issues.

When immersed in nature and away from distractions, people are able to reconnect with a sense of who they are. A major goal is to help students understand their basic needs, discover their core values, and learn to meet their needs in ways that honors their values. The programme is experiential, students are active members of the treatment team to assist their investment in the therapeutic process. A Field Therapist oversees the programme team for each student.  Other team members may include the family, student, field guides, and support staff.

I was on the very first pilot of the adventure therapy course that took place in the Cobb valley and those 11 days in nature reconnecting with myself and others without distraction changed my life completely. I can’t thank Whenua Iti enough for what they did for me.
