Waka Ama Journey

The Waka Ama Journey programme has been designed to increase student’s self-confidence, cultural connection, and develop a strong sense of belonging.

The programme will identify individual student’s strengths and build on these to develop leadership skills.  This programme is experiential by nature and will provide a series of engaging and challenging learning opportunities for students.

It is a requirement for a school dean, senior management or staff member with pastoral care responsibility to attend with students. This allows the learning and connections developed to be fostered at school post course completion.

“The photos do not really show the ‘real’ impact that this trip has had on the kids and us teachers. They have found themselves and new friends. The ripple effect is already apparent around school. I have students I do not know saying kia ora on a daily basis!” – Secondary School Teacher
