Environmental Journey

Join us on a fun & rewarding environmental journey from the mountains to the sea – perfect if working towards your Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Venture into one of our stunning local national parks or surrounds, such as the Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes or Abel Tasman to contribute to local community conservation work, while experiencing the unique wilderness landscapes of Te Tau Ihu! Connect with local groups such as Project Janzoon in the Abel Tasman National Park, protect our native species with the Takaka Hill Biodiversity Group, or help plant wetlands with the Marahau Halo Group while overnighting in the national park. This experience is perfect for anyone looking to complete their Gold Residential project or Adventurous Journey for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, including Kākāriki Journey participants.

What to expect

Whenua Iti Outdoors has 35 years of experience working with young people in the outdoors. You will be led by our qualified and experienced instructors and you will be walking with packs, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. The journey will be planned to suit the season & weather forecast. Once you arrive to base, we provide all transport, activities, outdoor gear and qualified instructors. We will supply gear lists when you enrol and any further information you require. If you are completing your Gold Residential Project you can only have one other person on the journey that you know. See our Frequently Asked Questions for more answers.
