3 Local National Parks to Choose From
Within an hour's drive of our base, we can access three diverse and distinct national parks.
The Abel Tasman National Park's coastline stretches above Tasman Bay and is home to one of our Great Walks, where ExpedNZ groups can explore golden sand beaches on foot, kayak or waka (tradional Māori canoe). Water taxi services operate in the park providing access for day trips, or stay overnight in DOC huts or camp at one of the many tent sites.
The Kahurangi National Park stretches from the east to the west coast of Te Tau Ihu (the top of the South Island), with dense stands of native bush, incredible limestone outcrops & cave systems, open alpine tops, wild west coast beaches, beautiful river gorges and is home to our protected native wildlife including the kiwi. It offers ExpedNZ groups the opportunity to experience remote wilderness locations on hiking trips, caving expeditions, rock climbing & abseiling.
The Nelson Lakes National Park is an inland alpine region, known for its beautiful alpine lakes with the Blue Lake claiming to have some of the clearest water in New Zealand. The stunning beech forest, craggy snow capped mountains and lakes of all sizes along with our local skifield make this a must see National Park.
