Course Aim
The Manaaki Tāpoi course celebrates the importance of Cultural (indigenous) Tourism. Learning will focus on key elements of Māori culture and how they are interpreted in cultural tourism experiences. Tauira will gain an appreciation for the high regard that Māori culture is held in by overseas visitors and will have an opportunity to interact with these visitors.
Each block of learning is held at a different locations across Te Tau Ihu (Top of the South Island). Students will have opportunities to spend time and stay overnight at local Maraes.
Learning Objectives
Students will have the opportunity to achieve academic learning objectives that contribute to their National Certificate of Education Achievement (NCEA) and develop crucial personal and social development skills.
Personal and Social Development Objectives:
Personal and social skills are transferable to any chosen career pathway and are considered essential skills by employers.
